Ciana Girl Scouts Gold Award Winner Santa Ana, CA

My name is Cianna I am a senior at Mater Dei Catholic High School in Santa Ana California, I completed my Girl Scout Gold Award in my sophomore year.
As a Girl Scout earning the highest level awards during my Junior, Cadette and Senior/Ambassador was not just a goal but necessary for me, the awards are the combination of what we learn and how we give back to the community. I earned the Bronze level award in 2005, Silver in 2007 and the Gold in 2009.
I had a difficult time coming up with a Gold Award project not because I could not come up with any ideas but because I has so many ideas, so I worked with my mom and was able to find one that touched my heart.
I started a non-profit foundation called Books 4 Hope. I have been collecting new and gently used books and distributing them to children and organizations that provide services to children.
I have provided books to United Cerebral Palsy Foundation, the reading room at CHOC Children's Hospital, three special education teachers in three different school districts, the city of Anaheim's operation book bag, just to name a few.
Knowing that I have helped children have a book of there own is very satisfying, reading is the start of learning, and every child deserves to ability to learn.
