The Chester County Fund for Women and Girls announced that six Chester County agencies received $20,000 in grants from its award-winning "By Girls, For Girls" grantmaking program.
"By Girls, For Girls" invites a group of high school girls from all over Chester County to recommend nonprofit agencies to receive grant funding that specifically provide services for girls and young and women in the county.
The girls in this year's program focused on directing grants to organizations that provide services for domestic violence victims, basic needs to families battling poverty and programs that address mental health issues for girls.
This year's grant recipients are Crime Victims' Center of Chester County for its Latina Teen Sexual Assault Victims' Self-Esteem Group; Domestic Violence Center of Chester County for its Girls' Club, a weekly support group for girls who are dependents of domestic violence victims; Home of the Sparrow for its transitional housing program; Safe Harbor of greater West Chester homeless shelter; girls star for its Understanding Girl Bullying program; and The Garage Youth Center for its GirlTalk, a bi-monthly afterschool program for high school girls that help to equip and empower them.
In the past six years, the "By Girls, For Girls" program has awarded $130,000.
